2014 | IIDA and LAW Global Panel Discussion on Sexual Violence in Somalia
During the June 2014 Global Summit addressing sexual violence in conflict, Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) and IIDA Women’s Development Organization (IIDA) held a panel discussion in the House of Lords on the case of Somalia. The speakers discussed the role of the international community and the UK in the protection of women from sexual violence in Somalia while also highlighting present and future plans for Somalia. They discussed the role of donors and whether funding complies with the ‘Do No Harm’ principle. Seventeen hundred reported cases of sexual violence in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and eight hundred reported rapes in the capital highlighted the need to address this issue and establish and develop concrete recommendations.
